GWC picked for Pearl GTL
The Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) has been awarded a contract to manage the storage of chemical materials used in the Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) project at its Ras Laffan warehouse in Qatar. Catering to the logistics requirements of Qatar’s oil and gas industry, the 16,000 m2 facility was launched in 2009 as the country's first ISO-certified and government-approved warehouse for the third-party storage of hazardous materials. As such, GWC says, this purpose-built facility meets all appropriate health, safety and environmental requirements.
Fully equipped with gas leak detectors, spill kits, containment tanks and fire-fighting systems, the facility can handle all government-approved chemicals. “We have been focusing on developing our chemical logistics solutions for our oil and gas customers, increasing our capacity for hazardous material movements, storage and distribution,” says GWC director Nader Hakim. Co-developed by Shell and Qatar Petroleum, the Pearl GTL is arguably the largest plant of its kind in the world, turning natural gas into liquid fuels and lubricants.
