Blackwater Midstream Corp, through its Blackwater Maryland LLC subsidiary, has completed the acquisition of NuStar’s 177,000-bbl (28,140 m3) terminal in Salisbury, Maryland. The site on the Wicomico River, which has inland barge and tank truck access, has sufficient space available to build a further 100,000 bbl of capacity.

Mike Suder, Blackwater CEO, observes: “Adding this site is a continuation of our strategic plan to acquire under-utilised terminal assets and expanding the capabilities to meet our customers’ product distribution requirements. This is the same model that we have very successfully implemented at our two previous acquisitions in Westwego, LA and Brunswick, GA. In fact, we are currently in the planning process for additional tank capacity at both of those locations.”

More specifically, the Salisbury site is seen as a key component in supply chain services for the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia area. “Our primary focus is to ensure that our customers’ requirements are met by providing our outstanding customer service that ultimately supports their business plan,” adds Frank Marrocco, chief commercial officer. “In addition to the petroleum handling capabilities at the site, we are in discussions with other potential customers that have indicated an interest in storing non-petroleum products.”
